Someone might begin to wonder why a person would wake up on a very good day and think of suicide. You might begin to ask, Do they not know what the Bible says? Are they not aware of stories of hope in the Bible? Some people are faced with so many circumstances in life that all that they can think of is suicide forgetting that there is hope in Jesus Christ. It is very easy for one to begin to blame a suicidal person asking why he should even think of committing suicide; little wonder the Bible says in Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. Some persons might say it is pure stupidity. I want us to take into consideration some very important questions before we judge such people. Let us look at questions like
- What circumstances can lead a person to suicidal thoughts?
- Has the person had any form of counselling prior to the suicide attempt?
- Does the person have relatives around or even friends?
These are just a handful of the numerous questions one should ask before throwing stones at a suicide attempt victim. It is very important to realize that so many people are going through untold difficulties and challenges and when they are unable to bear the challenge further, they think of taking their lives. If you are one of such person, please know that There is Hope in Jesus Christ. All you need to do is study the word of God and read stories of hope in the Bible. Act on the word of God with faith and you will be liberated.
BIBLE VERSES ABOUT HOPE
Deuteronomy 33:27 – The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
Psalm 34:17 – When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.
Psalm 46:1-3 – God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earths give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
Isaiah 12:2 – Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
The above Bible passages about hope are only a few out of the numerous promises of God for us. One of the widely known root causes of suicide is depression. People are faced with terrible issues and they struggle emotionally. Bad enough, they are unable to step out of their shells to talk to someone about it. They eventually get really depressed and next you find such persons entertaining thoughts of suicide.

A MAN WHO EXHIBITED HOPE IN THE BIBLE
Job in the Bible was one man who had “enough” reasons to commit suicide. Imagine going through all the pains and sufferings that this young man had to go through. In the book of Job 3:1, the Bible says
“After This, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. What a tormented manhe was to curse the day he was born. If you study Job chapter 2, you will see how heavily Job was struck. Job 2:12-13 recorded thus
“And when they raised their eyes from afar and did not recognise him, they lifted their voices and wept; and each one tore his robe and sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven. So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.”
Imagine that!!! His grief was VERY GREAT that they sat with him for seven days and seven nights and no one spoke to him. This is no exaggeration at all. The Bible is very careful and particular with words. I can tell you that Job had attained the greatest height of depression but was that enough to end it? Of course not.
REJOICE FOR CHRIST IS YOUR ASSURANCE
To sum up, at a time like that I see just one option and that is nothing but PUSH!. Keep moving forward no matter how difficult moving gets. Know that a miracle is hanging somewhere waiting for your arrival, you can’t get hold of it if you give up at the point you are. You have to move up to it to grab it. Always keep Psalm 9:9-10 at the back of your mind & keep moving. The Lord will be with you always
