when the enemy comes in like a flood

3 THINGS YOU MUST DO WHEN THE ENEMY COMES IN LIKE A FLOOD – ISAIAH 59:19

One of the mistakes people make is thinking that being a Christian makes life completely void of problems and challenges. A Christian faces several issues in life just like every other person out there. Personally, there have been times when I had to wonder & ask myself if God had turned His back on me, therefore I often wondered if he had forgotten about me or if he had gotten tired of me and decided to let go. Never make the mistake of thinking the Lord is not with you when the enemy comes in like a flood. Be assured that God is with you every step of the way; I therefore want to especially encourage you with some of the things I have learnt about the wiles of the devil and how you can overcome them all.

The Bible in Isaiah 59:19 says

“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.”

In the above verse of the Bible, we can see that the promise of God is upon as many as are those who fear His name and do His will; This is same for every other promise of God in the Bible. You ought to be walking by the will of God in order to be a partaker of the promises of God. Satan doesn’t have any need to come in like a flood when people are not living a righteous life and living a life of service to God. This is because when people fail to live life according to God’s standard, the devil has indirectly achieved his aim.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, you should:

FIRE BACK AT THE DEVIL WITH THE WORD OF GOD

A man who is loaded with the word of God is like a soldier who goes to battle fully prepared & with enough weapons of warfare. Life is like a battlefield, whoever must defeat the devil must be unshakeable  by being loaded with the word of God

The Bible in Luke 4:1-13 makes it clear that every Christian needs to get endowed with knowledge off the word of God. If the devil could attempt to bring down our Lord Jesus Christ with such temptations, how much more we Christians in today’s world?

The Bible in 1 Peter 5:8 says

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

The above passage tells us that the devil is a restless being lurking around all the time and looking for a person whose destiny he would terminate. To overcome him, you have got to be ‘worded’ and ‘rooted’ in Christ Jesus, who already set the pace for us to follow in Luke 4:1-13. The above qualities of a Christian are the first things that would help you when the devil comes in like a flood.

PUT ON THE FULL ARMOUR OF GOD

Someone who is not a Bible student or a Christian might be wondering what it means for a person to put on the full armour of God.

The scriptures in Ephesians 6:11-17 makes it very clear-

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The above scripture is a complete package of the standard of life a Christian needs to exhibit if he must defeat the wiles of the devil. A Christian should be careful to possess the qualities listed out in the above passage. I also want to say that there is no shortcut to Christianity.

DEPEND TOTALLY ON GOD

Let me also state that it is ‘impossible’ to defeat the devil on our own accord. The power to defeat the devil is from Christ; therefore, we must submit to God totally and let him do what only he can do.

The Bible in  James 4:7 says

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

What a promise of victory! All it takes to defeat the devil is to acknowledge the Lordship of Christ Jesus over us; he gives us the power to overcome our adversary the devil.

As Christians, we might be cast down, but indeed, we shall never get defeated. There are certainly times when the enemy comes in like a flood, but in Christ, we have total dominion and victory, Hallelujah!
